Brian Phraner

Born in Seattle, Washington
I started my music education at age 18 as a self-taught electric bass guitar player. I found that I had the innate natural ability to compose music from that moment on and initially focused my writing and performing in the "progressive rock" genre and playing in the Jazz Ensemble in college. Later I co-founded the prog-rock band Phreeworld releasing CDs in 1994 and 1998. Early in this century, I began to compose for orchestra, studying theory, contemporary harmony and orchestration from Hummie Mann and Tim Huling in Seattle. Since 2003 I've written about 230 minutes of symphonic music including two symphonies, a suite, two piano concertos, a chamber music piece for seven instruments (the performance of which I conducted) and many various short pieces. I served on the board of the Seattle Composers Alliance for 5 years.
