Stan King

From the time he was a boy, Stan King was fascinated with the sounds and possibilities of synthesizers. Hanging out in music stores was his favorite pastime where he would spend hours fiddling with knobs and settings on the equipment.

In the mid 1980s, he began acquiring electronic music equipment: a Moog MG-1, an Akai AX80, and a Roland TR505. He experimented with a variety of techniques of sound creation, and learned by practice and experimentation how to manipulate sounds and rhythms. In those early days, he had no access to a sequencer and recording was done on a cassette deck.

With the advent of computers and a variety of music software, Stan has taken full advantage of the new technology. He currently uses a PC along with the Korg X50 and Wavestation synths, an Edirol PCR-80 61 key MIDI keyboard, and Resolve active monitor speakers. Recording/editing software includes FL Studio 7 and Cool Edit Pro 2. VSTi instruments include H.G. Fortune's STS21 and Protoplasm, and U-he Zebra 2. He does not used sampled instruments, but chooses rather to program his own sounds for all his compositions.

He says: "I dreamed of creating music that would capture the imagination, creating atmospheric audio textures, strange and unique soundscapes, and putting them together to create music I call 'Audio Vision' - just close your eyes, relax, and let the music manipulate your imagination."
